One Year Stats

Today we went to the doctor for Jack's 1-year checkup. All is great....mommy thought he had an ear infection but naaahhh, must be teething. Jack has 4 teeth now and 2 more coming in any day! He was a big boy and got FOUR shots - ouch! The doctor was happy with everything and just wants him to drink more whole milk so he can grow big and strong...he's now UNDER 5 percentile in weight - yikes! But we reviewed his diet and he's eating alot so he just burns a ton of calories climbing all those stairs!

Height - 29 3/4" = 50 percentile
Weight - 18lbs 6.5 oz = less then 5 percentile
Head - 47.6 cm = 75-90 percentile

Some milestones we reviewed with the doctor - Baby Jack is saying DaDa and Doo-Doo (for Doodles) and recently started mama (but maybe I'm just being wishful). He is climbing stairs and cruising and almost letting go to walk on his own. He drinks from his sippy cup and eats all kinds of foods....even shellfish - much to the dismay of the doc. Oh well, how can he not have crab and shrimp when you live in MD???? - we'll stay away from the peanuts until he's 2:)

Baby Jack loves reading books and putting things in and out of boxes. He has a favorite cabinet in the kitchen where I store all the plastic bottles - he can sit on the floor and pull them all out and put them back:) His most favorite thing right now is turning light switches on and off...he could do that for HOURS - I'm not joking! And he loves to crawl into a room and close the door on mommy and daddy!

At school he is now sleeping on a cot all by himself and his teachers are really happy with how he is interacting so well with his friends...a few biting incidents, but we got some good ideas from the doctor today, so we'll try them out and see what happens.

Next appointment @ 15 months!

Today is my FIRST BIRTHDAY

John Finnian turns 1 today! The party is this Saturday, but of course, mommy and daddy started the morning off with a little "happy birthday" song to greet Jack in his room...

First Day of School

Well ok, for a 1 year school really is just daycare...but still a big deal in the Reid household. Today Jack joined the other 12-24 month olds in the Hippo Room at Goddard School. Being just a few days shy of his first birthday, he definitely is the youngest and smallest - but he made lots of friends.
We did have an "incident" report..oh no..Baby Jack has a little biting problem and chomped down on 2 friends today. He isn't aggressive...he goes to hug them and then chomp! Ugh, we are working so hard on that!
He went outside and played with chalk, read books, played with trucks and sang songs.....and only napped for 30 minutes all day. Oh well, it will take awhile to get used to sleeping on a big boy cot! Here are a few shots from the morning:)

We Are Getting Closer.....

So while we were in Havre de Grace today, we decided to do some practicing! We are getting closer, and I have determined that when Baby Jack has his shoes on he is more confident about trying to walk.

And in this video, it's just so funny when he wants to take a break. And, yes, I realize that he wouldn't be pee-ing in the woods in a squatting position...ok I'm still getting used to having a boy!

Seafood Festival in HDG

So today we had a ton of chores to do around the house, but we decided to play hooky since it was so nice outside. We grabbed the paper and saw that there was a seafood festival in Havre de Grace which is on the Chesapeake Bay about 10 minutes from our house...and where mommy and daddy got married. It was a great Sunday afternoon adventure - complete with a friendly squirrel 'stealing' one of Jack's fig newtons;)
And in a few playful shots, you can see those two top teeth starting to poke through! I can never get a shot of the bottom two but believe me they are there! We have a biter on our hands, so trying to break the habit quickly!

Ohh How I Wish I Had A Red Wagon...

This weekend we visited Jack's cousin Aidan in Pennsylvania. It was Aidan's 2nd Birthday and we had a great time. Jack had the best time riding around (and even eating his lunch!) in Aidan's red wagon:)

Jack's First Baseball Game

Tonight we went to Ripken Stadium to watch the Aberdeen Ironbirds. They are the farm team for the Baltimore Orioles. It is always fun when the family gets together - we even had steamed crabs while watching the game! This was Baby Jack's first baseball game and he loved it...we are sure to spend many a summer night at a ball game.

Broom's Bloom Dairy Farm

The first of many trips to our favorite dairy farm....the ice cream here is amazing. There was a line of about 50 people at the farm tonight. They have cows, corn fields, acoustic music, and tons of kids running around. We went after dinner for mommy's birthday. Baby Jack tried a little of mommy's cone but it was too cold...didn't really like it. I'm sure that will change soon enough!
